07.02.2026 // The first residential building ever built on Convoy Street isn't starting small

One of the major developments brought on by 2020’s adoption of the Kearny Mesa Community Plan is Alexan Camellia, a new residential complex built on what used to be a low rise industrial area on Convoy Street. This project features 531 apartments, including 22 affordable housing units, with rent between $2,800 and $4,400 per month. Combining smaller five and six story buildings, the building reaches 700,000 square feet in size at final completion. Significant for its location alone, Alexan Camellia marks the first residential building ever built on Convoy Street.
Alexan Camellia was developed by Trammell Crow Residential under their Alexan Apartments brand. This is the second Alexan community in San Diego after the Alexan Gallerie, located on the northwest corner of the 163/8 interchange in Mission Valley. Camellia was designed by local architecture firm JWDA (Joseph Wong Design Associates).
Residents have access to a community swimming pool, a rooftop lounge with views of the city, an indoor and outdoor gym, and conference and office spaces. The location of the project also activates the existing retail and restaurants in the Convoy district with a local pedestrian base. Walkability is supplemented by dedicated bike lanes on Convoy Street and Ronson Road, as well as bus routes 43, 44, and 60.
As of March 2026, construction of Alexan Camellia has been completed, and the apartments are open to tenants.
