MTS has completed their project of demolishing and rebuilding the curbs of Kettner Boulevard between Broadway and B Street in Downtown San Diego, with new sawtooth bus bays opening to MTS Rapid routes on July 6, 2026.

Originally stated goals of this project were to improve access and wayfinding between Santa Fe Depot trolley station, America Plaza trolley station, and the Rapid/city bus stops between the two situated on Kettner Boulevard. However, the opening of the new sawtooth bus platforms unfortunately did not coincide with new wayfinding signage at Santa Fe Depot, which seems to have either been dropped or delayed from this project.

This project was first proposed in November 2019. However, after an MTS-hosted September 4, 2020 zoom meeting wherein the above refined option was presented, the project went silent for five years - until 2025, when construction on the project began.
