Apollo (known during development as Palm Canyon and Cosmonaut) is an under construction 9-story 82-unit mixed-use apartment building, situated on the northeast corner of 4th Avenue and Palm Street in the Bankers Hill neighborhood of San Diego.
Situated on a small site, only approximately 70’ by 110’, and formerly taken up by a nondescript medical storefront, Apollo drastically urbanizes this corner of Bankers Hill. Combining with two more developments at the same intersection in 2881 Fourth Avenue and The Louie, Apollo’s completion will create one of the most recent examples of a mixed-use enclave in Bankers Hill. To accomplish this, Apollo offers 1,400 sf of first floor retail space to the community.

Apollo was developed by San Diego-based real estate company Hub & Spoke Communities, also responsible for projects like Niima and Goldilocks. The design, by San Diego-based architecture practice TFWA, is very eye catching, sporting a white stony texture embalmed on alternating stacked volumes rising up the building’s facade - with small balconies built within both the ends of the volumes and the volumes themselves. The building is being built by Starcon Industries.
Like most new Bankers Hill apartment buildings, Apollo makes use of the Complete Communities Housing Solutions zoning bonus based on the Transit Priority Area created by the nearby 3 and 120 bus lines. While the originally planned completion date was 2024, demolition and construction did not begin until early 2025, and Apollo is now planned to be complete in 2026.
