The Millenia Library is a mixed-use library and office building located within Chula Vista’s Millenia development. It is being built as part of the first phase of Chula Vista’s “University-Innovation District,” which aims to build the first four-year public university in the South Bay.

The city broke ground on the project in 2023 and was originally developed in partnership with Del Mar-based Chesnut Properties as part of their Millenia Office project which, alongside higher education, will also dedicate office buildings for technology and life science businesses.

The four-story, 168,000-square-foot Millenia Library is Chula Vista’s first new library since 1995—as well as the city’s largest. Despite the building’s name, the city’s public library will only occupy the first and second floor. With higher-education also in mind, 7,000 square feet of the lower level will be dedicated to SDSU’s Nursing and Global Campus programs. A café or restaurant is also planned for the lobby.

The third and fourth floor will house the 75,000-square-foot Chula Vista Entertainment Complex which will provide film and media production facilities and creative offices. A 2022 agreement with SDSU would have originally planned to bring the university’s television, film and media program to the library, however, it was scrapped in 2024 after both sides failed to reach a compromise. Despite this setback, the city still seeks to make these facilities available to the general public and professional film studios.

The library is slated to be completed in the summer of 2026 and is currently seeking bids for construction companies and contractors to provide furnishing.
