On the site of an iconic former Incredible Universe store, which later became a Fry’s Electronics store, and which closed for good in February 2021, the first of four phases of a 1,118 unit apartment development is currently under construction. When complete, the complex will consist of six five-story apartment buildings.

The project is being developed by San Francisco-based Wolf Properties. This is not the only Fry’s redevelopment Wolf Properties is involved in, as the company is also working with former Fry’s locations in San Jose, Plano, TX, Arlington, TX, and Renton, WA, per their website. The architecture firm for San Diego's development is not yet publicized.

This first phase, which will feature 310 residential units, includes the two buildings directly on top of the former Fry’s, as opposed to the former store’s massive surface parking lot—and is expected to open in 2027. Leases will start on the first and second floor, then the remaining floors will open later.

The name Stonecrest is lifted from Stonecrest Plaza, the lifestyle center the Fry’s was a part of. It remains to be seen if this name will stick as development continues.
Demolition of the Fry’s began in January 2025, and as of October 2025 ground-up progress for the first phase of apartments is visible at the site.
